Description
As you can see from the attached photos, the bins are constantly overflowing, with rubbish left scattered around the area. There is a strong, unpleasant smell coming from the waste, and it attracts a large number of green flies and you can see Margot all over the floor. The situation has become increasingly unhygienic.
I have personally gone to speak with the staff at Supermarket about this issue almost every week. Unfortunately, I have noticed that it seems they only take action after I complain, rather than managing the waste properly as part of their regular responsibilities. I would expect that a supermarket should have someone responsible for cleaning and waste management to ensure the area is kept clean and hygienic at all times. On many occasions, they also dispose of spoiled frozen food, including raw chicken and raw meat, in the bins. This makes the smell even worse and attracts even more flies.
The flies regularly enter my flat whenever I open the front door or windows and they also make their way into my kitchen, where they perch on food and food preparation surfaces. This is extremely unhygienic and a constant concern for my family’s health. The smell also comes inside, especially at night when the windows are open. With the current hot weather, we should be able to open the windows for fresh air, but we are unable to do so because of the odour and the flies. I cannot even leave my kitchen window open while cooking to allow for proper ventilation because the flies immediately come inside, sometimes we step on Maggot will work in and out of the flat.
The problem is seriously affecting our quality of life. My children and I cannot comfortably sit in the garden because of the smell and the number of flies. I am also becoming increasingly concerned about the potential health risks this poses to my family.
My older son has been waking up with nosebleeds on many occasions. While I cannot say with certainty that this is caused by the condition of the bins, I am deeply concerned that constantly breathing in air contaminated by the smell and waste through his bedroom window, particularly at night, may be affecting his health. This is something that worries me greatly as a parent.
