Description
Dear Leicester City Council Parks & Open Spaces Team,
I am writing to raise a formal complaint regarding the repeated, informal cricket matches taking place at Bede Park, Leicester.
While I fully appreciate that ball games are a legitimate use of public green space, the activity in question goes beyond casual recreational play. A group of individuals regularly uses the same fixed area of the park as an informal cricket pitch. This has resulted in two distinct and ongoing problems:
1. Grass damage: The repeated use of an identical pitch location has caused visible and sustained damage to the turf, effectively creating a worn, bare-ground area that detracts from the park’s appearance and condition.
2. Exclusion of other park users: The scale of the cricket matches, in terms of the area covered, the trajectory of the ball, and the physical space occupied, renders a substantial portion of the park unusable for other members of the public during summer months. This is particularly concerning given that the park serves a wider community of residents seeking passive recreation.
I would respectfully request that the Council investigate this matter and consider whether appropriate signage, usage guidelines, or enforcement action may be warranted to ensure the park remains accessible and well-maintained for all users.
